Charities welcome Green’s €32m VAT pledge

Tuesday May 1st, 2007

Irish charities have strongly welcomed the commitment by the Green Party to commit €32m to compensate charities for VAT. The proposal is contained in the party’s document ‘Fairness and Prosperity – A Green approach to the economy’ issued today (Monday May 1st).

Richard Dixon, Chairperson of the Irish Charities Tax Reform Group said “Unlike the business sector charities cannot reclaim VAT on expenditure. The proposal from the Green Party would end this anomaly and allow charities play an even greater role in assisting the weak and vulnerable in society.

“We call on other political parties to adopt a similar policy.”
