ICTRG 13th Annual Conference
- "Charity Law Reform - what to expect" - Tuesday 28th September
2004 - The Gresham
The theme of the Conference this year is the changing regulatory landscape
for charities given the forthcoming reform in charity legislation, trust
law and company law all of which will impact on the sector.
On Charity Law Reform we have invited the new Scottish Charity Regulator,
Jane Ryder to give us some idea of what we can expect in terms of regulation
when we have our own regulator and Seamus Murray from the Dept. of Social
Development - Voluntary and Community Unit in Northern Ireland to give
a NI perspective. We also hope to be able to give feed back on the findings
of the Dept. Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs consultation process
on charity law reform.
Patricia Rickard-Clarke, a law reform commissioner, will speak about their
proposals for Charity Trust Law Reform and Pat Nolan, from the Company
Law Review Group will speak about proposals re Designated Activity Companies
(DAC) and the potential for a subset specifically for charities - Charity
Designated Activity Company (CDAC). Caroline Casey from the Aisling Foundation
will speak from the perspective of someone setting up a charity, having
to decide what legal structure to adopt etc. and her experience of what
that has been like. You may recall that Caroline who is legally blind
trekked across India on an elephant a few years ago.
Places are limited and will be assigned on a first come first served basis
so book early.
