ICTRG Welcome Government Decision on Live Aid
Press Statement from Irish Charities Tax Reform Group
The Irish Charities Tax Reform Group (ICTRG), which represents 150
of Ireland’s leading charities, welcomes a decision by the Government
today to refund VAT on Live Aid Music Sales.
This VAT refund decision by Government will greatly enhance the
capacity of Live Aid to support deserving projects in the developing
world.
The decision by Government announced by Junior Minister Conor Lenihan
today is an example of how Government can work in partnership with
the charities sector.
For the past three years ICTRG has campaigned to have VAT relief
introduced for Irish Charities – who now pay 18 million euro
annually to the Government in VAT. This year ICTRG is hopeful that
Minister Cowen will look favourably on this proposal.
The announcement today is a clear indication that a VAT relief scheme
is possible – if the Government decide to assist the charities
sector in this way.
